Soundtrack of My Year!

It occurred to me when I first heard Josh Rouse was releasing a new album April 13, 2018, that I have been listening to him for 20 years! Back in 1998, I decided to buy every Rouse album. This release caused me to enter a month-long excursion back through my entire Rouse collection. I have written reviews for each of his albums starting with "Dressed Up Like Nebraska" to the present. During the years, I've also been to concerts! Throughout writing these reviews, it occurred to me how Rouse was one of the soundtracks of my life. He's one of my favorite songwriters and also one of my favorite performers. The year 2018 has also been a special treat for Rouse fans because the musicians in Rouse's circle have been absolutely prolific. The year began with the release of a new Silver Seas album "Midnight Road." Joe Pisapia then released his "Connection" album. This was followed by Daniel Tashian's "Same Other Country." Both Pisapia and Tashian have been involved with Rouse in past records and have been co-writers. These works and Rouse's new release are now the Soundtrack of My Year!

I am also loving this album as a fan of both Rouse and 80's Sophisti-Pop (Think The Blue Nile, Spandau Ballet, Sade, Go West, Johnny Hates Jazz, Danny Wilson, Living in a Box, Breathe, Scarlett & Black, or When in Rome), and it really does take me back to one of my favorite Rouse albums "1972" where he was paying homage to a period. He did the same in his Spanish Mediteranean period but that extended over several albums with mixed results. Tracks I'm getting into now from the new release are "Salton Sea," "Love In the Modern Age," "Businessman," "Women in the Wind," "Tropic Moon," and "I'm Your Man." He's making the 80's his own just like he made the 70s or Spain and it's musical influences his own. Bravo Josh! And thank you for 20 years of great music from a grateful die-hard fan.

Love it.

This cd has a great quiet vibe. Josh gives his fans something different every time he drops a new CD. As a fan I never know what to expect. This CD is one of Josh’s best. Reminds me a lot of his "The Happiness Waltz" CD. I absolutely love this CD. Favorite songs: Businessman, Tropic Moon & Hugs & Kisses.
