iTunes Review

On their sophomore album Humanoid, Tokio Hotel offers glimpses of an apocalyptic future with a mixture of lust and loathing. The German teen combo continues to intermingle goth, glam and New Romantic motifs, both in their fashion sense and musical approach. Duran Duran and Depeche Mode’s ‘80s hits are frequent reference points here. Singer Bill Kaulitz preens and struts on top of industrial beats, achieving a playful sort of sulkiness on the trudging “Pain of Love” and the buoyant “Human Connect to Human.” Tokio Hotel don’t mind adding some froth to their gloomy brew, as the bouncy “Darkside of the Sun” and the tingling “Forever Now” show. Kaulitz and his band mates flirt with big themes (check out “Love & Death”), but mostly seem drawn to romantic revenge (“Automatic”) and brooding alienation (“Zoom Into Me).” Producer David Jost gives Tokio Hotel a high-gloss sonic environment to romp about in. Humanoid’s angst-ridden effervescence is relentlessly (maybe even inhumanly) catchy.

This isn't for the teeny boppers who just want happy songs this is for true fans, & new ones alike. Tokio Hotel aren't just a 'Emo' band. Their lyrics have true meaning some of that is lost in translation but made up for when you hear them live! Buy this if you want an amazing album, by a band that's always the underdog!

i miss the old tokio hotel

let me just say how much i loved tokio hotel. i watched everything posted on their facebook page, checked in on their websites, learned all the words to their german songs before listening to the english versions. this band spoke to me. i loved what the band was about. and i stayed up until midnight tonight waiting for the release.

this synth. this is not tokio hotel. i can't believe a band that wrote something as amazing and touching as monsoon could stoop to this level. i thought they were the one band that would stay true to their sound and to their fans through everything. i guess i was wrong. i wish i could get my thirteen dollars back.

THEYRE BACK.... and here to STAY!!

In the previous albums, Tokio Hotel was going with the trends of music- making timeless songs, but still staying relatively safe. But NOT this album! This time Tokio Hotel is taking music that will be the future and morphing it into the TH sound we know and love. Noise (Komm)- pretty epic for a first song. Bill’s English sounds good in this song, I can understand most of the words he sings. I like all the background stuff, very interesting Dark Side of the Sun (Sonnensystem)- 11/10 wow. Just… wow. A HUGE wake-up call to the rest of the album, this song proves that TH have so much talent and are really here to stay -not that we had any doubt. The production is amazing. Reminds me a bit of ready set go (lyrically) Automatic (automatisch)-9/10 A good choice for s first single, because it connects the “scream/zimmer 483” TH with the “humanoid” TH. The music and vocals are more like the old TH, but theres new sounds in the song too. German version rocks. World Behind My Wall (lass uns laufen)- 9/10 More old-school TH. Interesting lyrics… this will be a great concert song! I think its better in german Humanoid (Humanoid)- 10/10 chaotic and a bit confusing- but its supposed to be that way! It’s a WHOLE new sound, Bill does much more with his voice and literally sounds like a robot, which makes sense cause the song is about not wanting to have strong feelings Forever Now (Fur immer jezt)- 9/10 I really like the chorus, bills voice isn’t that computerized. Also better in german Pain Of Love (Kampf der Liebe)- 10/10 REALLY great chorus, so easy to sing along to. Dogs Unleashed (Hunde)- 7/10 I think this is the weakest song on the album. Too techno-ish, but still has a good chorus Human Connect to Human (Menschen suchen Menschen)- 7/10 I think the chorus is a bit weaker than most other songs Hey You (Hey Du)- really powerful. Great anger song Love & Death (Traumer)- 9/10 a really addicting track, the chorus and verses contrast very nicely, with LOUD and aggression in the chorus and more soothing calm verses. Bill’s voice is a little overcomputerized in the chorus,. Zoom Into Me (Zoom)-8/10 a sweet song, the music is really interesting but overwhelms bills voice a bit Phantomrider (Geistererfaher)- 9/10 calmer and a bit mellow. again, Bills accent is more subdued in this song. And this song has great music and complements bills voice and the lyrics nicely. My only gripe is I don’t think the title reflects the song very well. This is a more “old-school” Tokio Hotel sound That Day - 9/10 for some reason, bill sounds odd in this song… but the guitar is really cool in the chorus Alien- 10/10 the lyrics are so incredible. And so is the chorus and the verses, and the techno part works well Screamin- 10/10 reminds me of scream (of course). Super powerful. Down On You ()- 8/10 bill does some interesting vocal stuff ive never heard before And, well, that’s pretty much my two cents on the new album- its tokio hotel so of course its amazing, but its too computerized. BUT I just have to say that American itunes could be a lot better with the addition of a few german albums and some german AND English music videos (don’t jump? 1000 oceans?)!!
