Customer Reviews

Lyrically and musically one of his strongest albums

Duncan's follow-up to his self-titled release is in the same vein of intelligently crafted pop, but with a much more introspective and older sound. Melodies are more captivating than in his latest release, White Limousine, and arrangements are cleaner, simpler, and less over-produced than in Daylight, which really allows Duncan's easy vocals to shine through. Another great release from a consistently great artist.

Duncan at his Biting Best

When this album came out, I was just doing the same (um... coming out, just for those that aren't caught up)... And the memories are as rich as if it was the first time hearing it everytime. Duncan's first album was good, I thought it had some great songs on it, especially the first half of the disc. But it started to lose me in the second half. This album, though, is through and through a treasure in my collection. From the bitter strains of "In Between" and "Bite Your Tongue", to the introspection of "Con Artistry" and "A Body Goes Down," this is probably the most geniune album, IMO, that you'll ever hear. The absolute best track, "Everyone, Everywhere," is full of rich strings and heavenly acoustic rhythms. Even the schmaltzy "Alibi" is just a great song to listen to and sing along with. Duncan isn't trying to do anything but tell his stories and share his craft. He's not trying to make a lot of money or sell his soul, he's offering it for free on these songs. Duncan would go on to make albums that were good, but nothing like this one. Not even close.
