Album Review

This is one for the time capsule or at least a permanent slot in the CD changer. Heart-rendering soul music by one of its best purveyors, buoyed by two excellent falsetto singers — silky smooth Charles McCormick and the exciting Henry Williams — Bloodstone's music is absolutely compelling. This excellent compilation features new songs, rekindled versions of their own hits, and stunning remakes. Renditions of Tower of Power's "You're Still a Young Man," Linda Jones' "Hypnotized," the Drewvells' "Tell Him" (as "Tell Her"), and the Fuzz's "I Love You for All Seasons" are unexpected, delightful surprises. Traditionalists and purists will quibble that "Natural High," "We Go a Long Way Back," "Outside Woman," "Never Let You Go," and some others are recuts, rather than the originals, but the voices and the songs are as riveting as ever.

Long time friend of the group

I lived next to Willis Draffen Jr. and grew up with his kids in Los Angeles. I also got to go to the studio with them when they recorded natural high and the song my little lady. Those where good times and their sound really caught on and I also went and saw the debut of their movie Train Ride to Hollywood which was great seeing them on the big screen. So when you get the chance play their songs and I'm sure you will fall in love with them as I have. You guys are great and continue success on tour.

Back in Da Day

When I was a kid and too young to be in the clubs my homies would help me sneak in to "The Apartment" and "Maverick's Flats" in L.A. One of the big attractions was Don Campbell who invented the dance the "Campbellock" forerunner to the poplock. But the headliner was always the "Sinceres" now known as Bloodstone. In those days you couldn't tell the difference between The Sinceres and the Temptations especially on jams like "Just My Imagination". These boys were and, always will be bad! Caught them out at Glen Ellen at one of Art Laboe's Oldie shows when I got back to L.A. a few years ago. Lots of chicanos (down for the oldies and my hat's off to them for keepin the genre alive) hardly any brothers and sisters (surprised me). The boys delivered. Their library is deep and classic. I give this a four just on the strength. Too many jams you can get on better collections. I do love "Mary" and "The Tables Have Turned". I could go on and on. They are still awesome.

Still short a few

Great songs like call me the (traveling man), go on and cry(my son),and Oh! Honey would make this a much more complete ultimate collection and should be on anyone's Bloodstone collection
