Album Review

With their second album, Tripping Daisy channel their psychedelic influences into more coherent songs without losing their quirky sense of melody. It makes for a more enjoyable and accessible record, one that isn't distinguished by the noise of guitars, but what the guitars are playing.

A gem of a discovery for me

I first heard this album at a listening booth at a Leachmere store in 1995. Being a musician and guitarist myself, I was totally blown away by the energy and originality of this band. I bought the disk on the spot, and it has remained one of my favorite CDs to this day. For a studio recording, this disk really does have a very energetic "live" feel. Budding bands could learn of lot of good sonic lessons from these guys. On a sad note, I've read that the reason the band is not around anymore is due to the death of their lead guitarist. To me, this disk is a precious nugget in my music collection.

Ridiculously fun album

This is one of my all-time favorite albums. From the ultra-high-energy "Rocketpop" to the catchy "I Got a Girl" to the depth and emotion of "Noose" and "P***k", this is one of the most consistently fun-to-listen-to albums I've ever heard. There isn't a single boring or filler track on it, or even a filler moment. It's easy to tell that a lot of heart went into this album, much like the rest of Tripping Daisy's work. I just wish they'd put their final self-titled album on iTunes. If you like indie rock at all, try this.

Fantastic Group

I used to check out Tripping Daisy whenever I could while in Texas. Although this album could never top 'Bill', it comes pretty close! 'I Got a Girl' was their big release outside of Texas but anyone who's seen them live or grew up in Texas, knows they have so many other fantastic songs, like Noose, Rocketpop, Piranha, My Umbrella and One through Four...Both albums from beginning to end rock!

Formed: 1991 in Dallas, TX

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s

Pleasantly inspired by the Beatles' psychedelic period as well as the more heavy riffers of the 1970s, alternative popsters Tripping Daisy came together in Dallas in 1991. Comprising vocalist/guitarist Tim DeLaughter, guitarist Wes Berggren, bassist Mark Pirro and drummer Mitch Marine, the band gigged around the area and began recording soon after. One of the session highlights, "Lost and Found," appeared on a compilation released by local KDGE-FM and received airplay on the station. In 1993, Tripping...
