Album Review

Unquestionably Stryper's strongest and most rockin' album, To Hell with the Devil was a tough act to follow. Instead of following it up with something equally intense, the band stressed its pop side on In God We Trust. Though not quite as big a seller as To Hell with the Devil, the album quickly went gold and fell short of platinum. In God isn't a terrible album by any means, and it does have its moments (most notably, "Come to the Everlife" and "The Writing's on the Wall"), but some of the other material isn't very memorable. Quite often, Stryper sounds like just another MTV-friendly arena rock band. More devoted Stryper aficionados are the main listeners who should acquire this album.

A truly great album

IGWT is one of stryper's great albums Always there for you is a great pop metal song. And if you are a Stryper fan then get this album\

Good, but not great

IGWT shows the signs of a band that have been punishing themselves over the previous 5 years with record-tour-record-tour etc. While the title track, and "Always There..." are really fantastic pieces of pop metal, the rest is really a lot of filler that just doesn't live up to their usual standards. Consequently, it doesn't hold up so well today either (20 years after its initial release). Worth the buy if you're a Stryper completist like me, but don't expect to be blown away like you were with "To Hell With The devil" It's no wonder they took a 3 year break after this before releasing "Against The Law", which returned the boys in stripes to more solid written and playing efforts.

Stryper is the BEST!

My first Christian group was To Hell With The Devil and I got saved under that album. Stryper definately produced one of the best albums ever with In God We Trust.

Heavy metal has been associated with ol' Beelzebub ever since its inception, but a few acts took the opposite route and put their Christian beliefs in hard-rocking songs, such as Stryper. Formed in Orange County, California in 1983, the group was originally known as Roxx Regime, and consisted of singer/guitarist/main songwriter Michael Sweet, drummer Robert Sweet, lead guitarist Oz Fox, and bassist Timothy Gaines. It wasn't until the group changed its name to Stryper (which stood for "Salvation Through...
