iTunes Review

The influences are solid. The attack is genuine. The energy is infectious. And the young man can sing with a snarl on his lips. After the three-song EP You're Mine, which introduced the Brooklyn-based rocker to those unable to attend his animally magnetic performances, Romancing expands the look at one of 2012's most promising new rockers. Devin sings with a rasp and a howl that merges New York glam with British punk, applying it to a sound that interjects the feel of Phil Spector's classic work with the brattiness of The Libertines and The Strokes. By keeping a tight rein on the material, Devin ensures that the tracks pack a punch. At its base, "New Horrors" may be the sound of old rock 'n' roll getting a new coat of paint, but it shimmers with a sense of fun often missing from those who copy the shadows. "I Don't Think I" jams with the verve of 1977-style new wave. The acoustic "White Leather" could be a lost Johnny Thunders number.

Crazy good, crazy underappreciated...

This was my soundtrack to NYC, which happens to be where Devin is from. He was support for the Cribs on their US tour. He is gonna blow up soon. Born to Cry and New Horrors are key tracks. First song is the worst, on an album full of stars. One of my favorite albums of 2012, which says a LOT. Buy this STAT and be a part of his start... then go see him live. You won't regret any of it.

In 2009 the native Brooklynite (full name Devin Therriault), who cites Johnny Thunders and Iggy Pop as his strongest influences, wrote his first songs while working his day job at a shipping warehouse, self-recording a demo soon after. The demo reached Frenchkiss label founder Syd Butler, who recruited Devin to the roster in fall 2011 and released Devin's debut EP, You're Mine, that...
