iTunes Review

“Holdin’ On” sounds like a California classic that should be broadcast from an 8-Track player blaring from a customized van. Thirty-five years past that moment in time, the possibilities of the era come charging from Rooney’s 2010 release, Eureka. “I Can’t Get Enough” is an AM radio classic from the days when AM radio stations played music. “Only Friend” pumps up the Fender Rhodes. “Into the Blue” is the song meant for ‘70s soft-rock stations. Yet, for all their love of retro-styles, Rooney play with an urgency and power that was incorporated by the punk and new wave bands that followed. The guitar crunch of “All or Nothing” uses Cheap Trick, Elvis Costello and countless skinny-tie bands to make its point. The additional bonus cuts on the “deluxe” edition include the full-powered attack of “Pity” and the reggae-tinged “Can’t Put Your Heart Around Everyone.” And the acoustic tunes, “I Don’t Wanna Lose You” and “Go On,” where the band proves it can even pull it off with little more than the purity of their earnest vocals.

A "must buy"

There is no doubt that this band is SUPER talented... They have stuck to their roots, and have only taken criticizm and ran with it. Their sound is a mixture of The Beatles, Passion Pit and so many others... they don't have a song i don't enjoy. Like I said in the title ^^ It is a must buy! They have amazing self-written lyrics, and GREAT original sound. Love it!

I have to say that Rooney is one of the best bands of all time. I absolutely loved their first two albums and this one did not dissapoint me in the slightest! I would have to agree with them when I say that this is their best album yet! My favorite one is Stars and Stripes and Only Friend. I love the melody and the fun beat throughout Stars and Stripes. Only Friend has a fantastic beginning and the same thing I love about it contiues on through the whole song! This is a great buy for any Rooney fan and anyone else that loves music!

A Great Summer Soundtrack!

This album is definitely a great one for summer! While their sound is somewhat different from their first two albums, it still has their usual summery pop beat. In some ways, I like this album better than the others in that I know it's more of what the band created than what the record label wanted. If any Rooney fan is skeptical about the new album, give it another try with this in mind. Every time I listen to the album, I like it more and more! I'm glad to see that Rooney hasn't drastically changed their sound to fit popular music like some bands do. This album is a definite must-buy!

Years Active: '00s, '10s

California rock band Rooney emerged in 2002, making their live debut warming up for Phantom Planet, a more experienced L.A.-based group who shared similar classic pop influences (E.L.O., the Beach Boys) along with a family member. The younger brother of actor and former Phantom Planet drummer Jason Schwartzman, Rooney maestro Robert Schwartzman was also a son of Hollywood who had dabbled in acting, but by the early 2000's had turned his full attention to crafting pleasantly retro guitar pop.
