Editors’ Notes

Most people saw Susan Boyle via the internet when her magic moment went viral, setting an online record for being watched over 100 million times in nine days. In that epic performance, the then 48- year-old Scotish woman took the world by surprise, making everyone feel both elated and disappointed — elated that such a heavenly voice could come from her and disappointed in ourselves for being so surprised. Boyle’s debut album I Dreamed a Dream is simply stunning. Here she confidently and comfortably opens with an exquisite rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” this version sounding even more gossamer than the Sundays’ 1992 cover. The title track (her star song) follows sounding much like her televised performance, though now under the studio microscope, every little lovely nuance of her amazingly controlled inflections is audible. She heats up Arthur Hamilton’s “Cry Me a River” and though her Carpenters-esque take on “Daydream Believer” is a bit out of place, Boyle’s cover of Skeeter Davis’ “The End of the World” is alone worth the price of admission.

I dreamed a dream

On a scale of one to ten this is definetly a 10. I have been waiting for this cd ever since I heard her sing. Her voice is so pure it. It is so magical - a dream come true.

Wild Horse!

Whoever came up with the idea to have Ms. Boyle cover "Wild Horses" deserves a Grammy!

A Star is Born

What a fabulous debut album by Susan Boyle! From the moment I saw her on Britain's Got Talent back in April I knew she was a special lady. What a voice! As the saying goes, better late than never, and it's wonderful that Susan can now realize her dream. If we could all be so lucky...

Amateur vocalist Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation after appearing on the first round of 2009's popular U.K. reality show Britain's Got Talent. Boyle, who was born in Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland in 1961, caught the judges (and the world) off guard with her masterful rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical Les Misérables, due in part to the unemployed and undeniably plain church volunteer's "salt of the earth" demeanor and country spinster back story. Boyle attempted a singing...
