Editors’ Notes

After getting her start with the '90s girl-group Xscape, Atlanta-based artist Kandi has had a wild career that includes writing massive hit singles for the likes of TLC ("No Scrubs") and Destiny's Child ("Bills, Bills, Bills") among many others. She's won a GRAMMY and an ASCAP award, runs her own clothing boutique, and is a reality TV star, appearing on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. But her true love has always been singing, and she returns here with her second solo album (her debut, Hey Kandi was released in 2001). Kandi Koated is slick and shiny modern R&B, produced by the likes of Jazze Pha, Ne-Yo, the Justice League, and Blac Elvis. Her soaring vocals can stand up against most of her peers, while the lyrics center mostly around the familiar issues of love, family, heartbreak, struggle, and self-empowerment. Check out the soulful "Give It to You," OutKast-sampling "Me and U," "How Could You...Feel My Pain," and "Superwoman," featuring her homegirl Tiny.

Get Tank instead...

I don't know where to start...I feel like I bought a demo album and someone who actually has fluidity and can emote better is going to redo all of these songs. Some songs like The More I Try, Me And U & How Could You...Feel My Pain are good efforts but her voice is still so choppy and sang in one tone. I wish her luck but I wish I had passed on the album.

Juz My Opinion

Theres no question about her voice;) It's extrodininary! But every song sounds as if she has the same tone and pitch. Her voice alone cannot carry this entire album. You begin to get bored of her voice. I feel as though she needed more subtle, softer songs. She's trying to prove something that she does nt have to...We all know she's a great singer and gifted writer. But I feel she came off way to strong on this album. However Leave U & the rendition of Go On Without U....was amazing;)

Best cd of the year!!!

Kandi.... Thankyou!!! I was worried that music has been so commercialized that True r&b had gotten lost somewhere in the mix. This is a very soulful, emotional and heart felt cd. All women can relate: whether you are young, old, single, dating, married, divorced. This cd gets 10 fingers and 10 toes!!!!

Vocalist and songwriter Kandi Burruss first caught the public's attention when she was only 15 years old. Her first major appearance was on Teen Summit Showcase on BET. What might have been a highlight for some artists proved to be little more than a stepping stone for this young singer. In 1990, Burruss became one of the members of Xscape, an R&B group that earned...
