Album Review

Led by multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Dan Hicks, the Christmas Jug Band are best heard in small doses (unless, of course, you truly enjoy the novelty of jug bands). "Somebody Stole My Santa Claus Suit" is the highlight (and can also be found on Rhino's Bummed Out Christmas collection).

Good and silly

We received this album several years ago as a gag gift . . . and we actually like it and play it every year. Much to the dismay of the people who gave it to us. My favorites are "I got home today" and "Somebody Stole my Santa Claus Suit".

The Christmas Jug Band played a truly unique blend of alternative country, traditional American music, and holiday songs that made its splash in the late '80s/early '90s. The group's roots were much older than that, as the band merged two jug band concepts that had developed in California.
