Customer Reviews

You haven't bought it yet? Why Not?!

In this day & age of American Idol, Pro Tools & Auto Tune, it's kind of rare to hear someone actually playing REAL instruments & REALLY singing! There's a little bit of everything for people who like REAL music! Ukulele? Check. Nice vocal harmonies? Check. Tasty lead guitar? Check. And a voice that doesn't sound like a bad imitation of your run-of-the-mill "rock singer"! And did I hear a REAL clarinet & not some cheezy keyboard sound patch? I guess you'll just have to download it to hear it for yourself!

A "Must Have" record!

Fantastic collection of songs! Kenny Hogan is a top notch musician and songwriter. Frank's Imperial is a must have rercord if your a fan of melodic, thoughtful songwriting. This record will be in my car CD player for the whole summer, I'm sure.

Great music from a new original artist

This album is a blast. Lucky Boston residents are familiar with Kenny Hogan’s smooth guitar riffs and good sense of humor, but if you’re not, you’re in for a wonderful surprise. Hogan has been playing on the New England scene for many years but as far as I know this is his first published recording. And it has everything. It starts out with some rock-a-billy; cruises into a few poppy jazz numbers; morphs into an R&B soul groove; and then stops off for a few country tunes before ending on a rock n’ roll high. And it’s all written and performed by Hogan, with a little help from some very talented friends. The songs are crafted and produced with great care to create different moods and Hogan subtly uses sound effects in some of the numbers to great comic relief: there’s the tweet of a spring robin on “Real Good Day;” the start of an engine on “Frank’s Imperial,” and police sirens at the end of “Backyard Barbecue.” The “Uke Song” should be required airplay on radio stations all over the country during the winter months as it tells the tale of a guy on a business trip in Florida, while his wife is stuck in Boston with the “ice and the snow and the rain.” And in it, you can hear her “shoveling the driveway,” as he sips a drink with his feet in the sand. At times this album sounds like the Stray Cats, the Beatles, the Temptations and even Lyle Lovett. But make no mistake about it. Hogan is a true original who plays homage to rock n’ roll’s roots while blazing a new path.
