iTunes Editors’ Notes

“I always wanted to be a superstar,” Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger confesses in “When I Grow Up,” the lead track on the group’s sophomore album, Doll Domination. With the aid of such hit producers as Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Sean Garrett, and Polow Da Don, the Dolls build on the platinum success of their first outing with pumping beats, swirling synth backdrops, and chant-along choruses. There’s plenty of sass served up on these tracks, with “Whatcha Think About That” (featuring Missy Elliott on vocals) and “Whatchmacallit” standing out for their relentless grooves and take-no-mess attitudes. Tracks like “Bottle Pop” (a teasing tune boosted by a Snoop Dogg cameo) and “Out of This Club” (an easy-gliding number guest starring R. Kelly) provide plenty of frothy fun. The real revelations come with the album’s bittersweet slow jams. “I Hate This Part,” “Halo," and “Happily Never After” are acoustic-accented breakup ballads that take the Dolls beyond their usual party mode into something more tender.

Nicole domination.

Nicole hogs all the time in these songs with her horrible vocals. Nicole already had a chance to be a solo star, but after half a dozen flop singles she gave up and forced the dolls to make a new album, and it's obvious they didn't even try hard. These songs are really bad and none of them even sound original. The dolls should've just broken up after their first album and stopped before they made fools out of themselves with those two horrible reality program on The CW that did nothing to help their careers. Last year two of the dolls (including that new one) left the group, and it wouldn't surprise me if more of them leave within the next year or two. PCD is past prime.
