Editors’ Notes

Shara Worden, the multi-instrumentalist also known as My Brightest Diamond, explores chamber pop in a way that ensures a wild ride. Having spent time as a touring member of Sufjan Stevens’ band and possessing a bachelor’s degree in classical vocal performance from the University of North Texas, Worden isn’t afraid to put the art into “art song.” Collaborating with the yMusic chamber ensemble, Worden has the arrangements that beautifully support her studied voice. Woodwinds, horns, and strings create instrumental beds that keep the music constantly swirling around her. There’s a sense of Judy Collins’ work with Joshua Rifkin in the elegance of “Escape Routes,” “I Have Never Loved Someone,” and “In the Beginning.” Standard instrumentations such as drums and bass occasionally flash onto the scene during “Reaching Through to the Other Side” and “High Low Middle.” However, Worden’s just as likely to soar with the weightless glide of “She Does Not Brave the War” and the avant-garde pulse of “Ding Dang.” It’s an album of great imagination and daring.

A Masterpiece

This album is a breakthrough.

Shara's previous work had, here and there - operatic voice, punk, R&B, chamber music, daring, emotional depth, whimsy. "All Things Will Unwind" takes all of that into a unified, mature whole. The musical experiment here, unlike so many classical/rock combos, works marvelously.

The best music fits form to function. So it's fitting the subject matter of this work is about the paradox of necessary opposites, time and timelessness, etc. The sound and the sense of it agree.

I have a catholic, wide open attitude about music, but it's exceedingly rare for me to care about an artist's work the way I do My Brightest Diamond. I've been waiting for a year for this to come out, and instead of disappointment, my usual reaction to anticipated music, it exceeded my expectations, wildly.

I'm pretty much broke right now, but I would have paid thrice the amount for this bold and successful experiment.

Love this Album. Mixes a variety od sounds in an electic and fun way. Meaningful lerics.

I agree with the last review. This album sounds like a huge step towards the unification of My Brightest Diamond's varied musical ambitions. I love this record and the fact that there are artists like Shara Worden making positive music that makes my heart melt.
