Editors’ Notes

Caught somewhere between a totally '80s time warp — not just new-wave, either; U2's Joshua Tree also creeps into Test Your Reflex's compositions — and delusions of grandeur that involve David Bowie and Brian Eno, this young SoCal act shoots for the stars, and then some, on its major label debut. No, really. Everything's larger than life on The Burning Hour: the crunchy chords that collide into the choruses of "Pieces of the Sun" and the wailing diva of "…Magazine Cutouts," the syths that glide and gloss over the surface sheen of "Black Hearts" and "New Year," and the plodding, patient wide open spaces of "I'm Not Sorry" and "Painted Red." Considering the reasoning behind the record's title — a strip club visit that reeked of desperation and depression — it's a tad surprising to see so many shades of darkness and light on the entire disc. But it's also refreshing, resulting in a record that's as emotionally-charged as it is engaging.

Customer Reviews

I've been looking forward to this for 6 months!

I heard at least half of the album live when they opened for Blue October here in Seattle last October. I've been checking back on their website all this time to figure out when this blessed moment would come. They are SO rad live, and they sound really good recorded, too (they passed out free samplers). "Pieces of the Sun" is the single everyone knows and loves, and it's amazing. "Thinking of You" is another huge favorite of this band's new fanbase, and I LOVE "I Am Alive." This band is kind of a "punky, alternative emo," but they're SO catchy and fun! They have some pretty great lyrics, too. So if you like that punky alternative catchy "emo" stuff, you'll love Test Your Reflex. Be sure to catch their next show, they're so passionate on stage! Support new artists and buy this album!! GO!

AWESOME!!!!

Test Your Reflex is my all time favorite band ever. Though Pieces of the Sun is my favorite song.(It was a free download.) I'm so happy that they came out with a new album.

Test Your Reflex was the BEST free single of the week in the world! Normaly its german music you can't download, but this was a good sounding song. Every once in a while id see if Itunes would charge for Pieces of the Sun, but they diddnt. Everyone, try this!!!

Formed in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, CA, in 2004 by singer and guitarist Ryan Levine, the band also includes lead guitarist R.C. Clark, keyboardist Andrew Ampaya, bassist Agustin Sanchez, and drummer...
