Pedals to the metal

This record's a little more "rocking" than their last two, which were more a mix of uptempo songs and slower, more introspective tunes. "Jumping Frenchmen" almost sounds like a techno dance track. But it's amazing to see how this much sound comes out of two people (a drummer, a guy playing double-neck guitar/bass, and a zillion pedals), definitely catch them live if you get a chance.

Another epic album!

When you got great tunes, great sound, great musicians, you don't need lyrics. Very arduous timing and excellent combination use of the double neck, and Tim's electronic and acoustic drums is mind blowing, seen them a few times, even better live, hope they release a live album some day.

Fat Gym Mess?

I honestly have no idea what is going on with El Ten Eleven anymore. Maybe I'm just no longer a fan of theirs at all, but, with each new album I keep hope alive that something good will come out of it. Alas, nothing has yet to even come close to their debut album. I do agree that These Promises Are Being Videotaped is a new direction for El Ten Eleven, and after having listened to the whole album a good number of times through, I can honestly say it's not a good direction. I don't understand this album at all, nothing seems good. The tracks are too short and seem too rushed - not anywhere as well-crafted as any of the songs on their debut, which in my opinion is a hard act to follow. With that aside, the only track I personally would recommend is "I Like Van Halen..." I think I'm a bit biased though because that track sounds most akin to their earlier work, the songs/melodies I enjoyed the most. Oh well, maybe next time?
