Album Review

Like The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale before it, The Preacher's Wife is a soundtrack that also functions as a Whitney Houston album, but that's where the similarity ends. Where The Bodyguard was adult contemporary pop at its finest and Waiting to Exhale was a virtual encyclopedia of mid-'90s mainstream black pop, The Preacher's Wife is an attempt at gospel-soul. Much of the music on the soundtrack was composed by Babyface, who normally can pull off such fusion. Babyface's pop material and David Foster's production of Houston's "I Believe in You and Me" are the most successful cuts, bar Kirk Franklin's exuberant "Joy," which utterly puts the other gospel cuts on the album to shame. So, there are enough strong cuts to make The Preacher's Wife worthwhile, but anyone who is looking for Houston strutting like a diva will likely be disappointed.

The Best Christmas Soundtrack Ever

Whitney is at her best. This music brings the holiday in with all the joy of the very first Christmas over 2000 years ago. :) Peace and Goodwill to ALL!

This album is so good. It is very underrated. The gospel songs are really good and stay in your head. "My Heart Is Calling" is so beautiful and makes me think of the movie. If you havent seen "The Preacher's Wife" yet you have to! It is really good just like the soundtrack.

My Inspiration to go on!

This is Whitney, pure and divine. I LOVE THIS CD! I cry everytime I hear "I Love the Lord". I feel inspired to keep going whenever I her "Step By Step" and I think of my husband every time I hear "I Believe In You and Me". Finally, I feel truly happy when I sing and clap to "Joy to the World". Whitney will always, always, always be in my heart because of this music. I believe gospel music allows her voice to soar to unbelievable heights. I miss this Whitney everyday. Please, Whitney, return to gospel. I would love to hear that voice again.

Whitney Houston was inarguably one of the biggest female pop stars of all time. Her accomplishments as a hitmaker were extraordinary; just to scratch the surface, she became the first artist ever to have seven consecutive singles hit number one, and her 1993 Dolly Parton cover "I Will Always Love You" became nothing less than the biggest hit single in rock history. Houston was able to handle big adult contemporary ballads, effervescent, stylish dance-pop, and slick urban contemporary soul with equal...
