iTunes Review

Executive produced by Dr. Dre, The Big Bang is as spacious, muscular, and finely calibrated as a high-end SUV. Busta Rhymes turned out to be the perfect partner for Dre, as both believe in spiking their hyper-masculine hip-hop with a dash of mischief. The beats are more regimented than previous Busta Rhymes records, but that only lets Busta overlay his own tricky rhythms on “Touch It,” “Don’t Get Carried Away,” and the uproarious “Get Down”—one of Timbaland’s most entertaining productions. And given Dre’s influence, the guests are impressive, especially Rick James’s posthumous turn on “In the Ghetto.”

Worth The Wait

It took Busta a couple of years to record and compile the songs for the album and it was well worth the wait. I wouldn't jump the gun and call this album a classic, but it is a masterpiece in it's own right. One thing that stands out about this album is Busta's ability to give each track it's own unique identity. He attempts to touch every genre in Hip Hop and succeeds. What's surprising is that the abundance of guest appearances actually help the CD. With help from The Chef (Goldmine), Nas (Don't Get Carried Away), Missy, Floetry and a slew of others, the album came together nicely. Some surprising features are Rick James (In The Ghetto) & Stevie Wonder (Been Through The Storm). However, there were a couple of tracks that Busta left off the album either due to sample clearances or just simply left off that deserved to be on this album. Most noteably "Where's My Money" feat. ODB. Nevertheless, it is a superb album, and one of the best offerings from NYC this year.

Hip Hop Is Back

I have been waitng on some of the real hip hop to get back on the scene.... listening to all of the gangsta im going to kill u rap is ok...but I have been waitng on the soul of hip hop to return. Finally Busta Rymes has come back on the scene and just in the knick of time in my opinion. His style is revamped and better than ever. This could be the beginning of the return of true hip hop at his finest.

One of the most idiosyncratic personalities in rap -- with his halting, ragga-inspired style and incredible complexity, inventiveness, and humor -- Busta Rhymes formed Leaders of the New School in 1990 and released two albums with the group before breaking out with a 1996 solo hit single, "Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check." Born in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, in 1972 of Jamaican heritage (a definite influence on his rapping style), Busta moved to Long Island in 1983 and, at Uniondale High School, met...
