Customer Reviews

Ahead of its time and beyond the curve.

Funny how everyone tries to argue why or how music is good. It's art! It's not going to be liked by all. For me, art (particularly music) is good if it evokes strong emotion. This album pulled out every emotion possible for me. Beyond that, it features some tricky time signatures for those of you looking for a little more than blan blan four on the floor that seems to flood the MODERNMUSICMARKET.

The Forgotten Masterpiece

Following the commercially and critically groundbreaking 'Kid A', 'Amnesiac' continues the dark, experimental tone of its predecessor. Unfortunately, this album is often underrated and overlooked by fans and media alike, doing a disservice to the brilliance of this collection of songs. Many see 'Amnesiac' as the B-sides of 'Kid A', but in my view, it is on equal footing, and even surpasses Radiohead's former album in terms of proving melody to go along with the haunting sounds of a struggling soul. However, for the hardcore Radiohead fan, this is an interesting work worth listening too. For the uninitiated, start with four CDs referenced earlier.

Radiohead were one of the few alternative bands of the early '90s to draw heavily from the grandiose arena rock that characterized U2's early albums. But the band internalized that epic sweep, turning it inside out to tell tortured, twisted tales of angst and alienation. Vocalist Thom Yorke's pained lyrics were brought to life by the group's three-guitar attack, which relied on texture — borrowing as much from My Bloody Valentine and Pink Floyd as R.E.M. and Pixies — instead of virtuosity....
