Playlist: The Very Best of Byron Cage collects 12 cuts from the velvet-voiced, praise & worship artist, including “The Presence of the Lord Is Here,” “I Will Bless the Lord,” and “There is a Name.” Cage, a staple of the increasingly popular mega-church scene, helped introduce a more modern, urban vibe to the genre, successfully incorporating elements of nu-soul and R&B into contemporary gospel.

Inspired by singers like Rev. Donald Vails and Thomas Whitfield, Byron Cage began singing gospel music as a teenager. He went on to serve as music director for the New Birth Church in Atlanta and to become a minister of music at Ebenezer AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church in Fort Washington, MD.
