In Love with this Album!
First of all this Album is just awesome!
The track-to-track flow on this album is absolutely amazing
You really think that you are listening to one big song that is about forty minutes long and it works out great & also the way the lyrics flow together from song to song and seem to tell a story..
Leighton Antelman's unique breathy vocals tie everything together and are complimented perfectly by strategically placed ethereal female background vocals
by Mindy White.
Another aspect of the album requiring mention is the keys. Mindy's elegance with the blacks and whites adds an element to the album that makes Illuminate what it is.
I've been impressed by numerous albums. I've never able to really truly say though that an album is truly perfect. Illuminate is. I can't find a track worthy of a skip. I can't find a nuance displeasing. This album has struck me like a hurricane but with the grace of a gentle breeze.
So Illuminate is not only an enjoyable listening experience, it takes you over entirely until you're lost in the dream-like world its songs create. Not many bands can create an album that is so flawless and cohesive that it practically demands to be listened to in full every single time, but Lydia does this with an impressive maturity and depth that betrays the members' young ages.
Buy It! :)
I have been in love with this album ever since I bought it. To say that it is amazing is an understatement. Every single song on “Illuminate” stands out to me; I can listen to this album for days and still never get sick of it. The opening song, “This Is Twice Now” is just miraculous, other favorites on the album include: “Hospital” and “Sleep Well.” I really have no words to describe this album because every time I listen to it I remain speechless. If you are looking for a new album with music that is completely new to you then this is it. It is definitely worth every penny. I would pay more than $7.99, and I don’t say that often, but this album is a staple to my iTunes collection and it was definitely my number one album for 2008. I highly recommend this album to anybody, any age group would appreciate it and I am sure that you will have the same thoughts that I did after you listen to this album for the first time. =]
Last Night I went to see Owl City play who was my favorite, walked out of Varsity Theatre completely awestruck by Lydia. I don't think I've ever seen such a talented group of people play. I'd seen an article in AP about Lydia about 2 years ago, didn't pay much attention to it, the day before I watched the first couple seconds of their music video "I woke up near the sea". I didn't know Lydia was going to be playing but I'd have to say it was one of the most pleasant surprises. In a hour I went from not hearing but 7 seconds of their music, to them being my favorite band. The lead singer Leighton has such an amazing stage presence and his voice just unbelievable. The melody guitarist Steven it's like his fingers were molded to move back and forth on the neck of a guitar. Mindy's backing vocals were like icing. And the amazing part is that they sound as good live as they do on their album. Their music isn't overly tweaked and edited like much of today's they actually sound as they do, they are pure talent raw and defined and if you don't purchase this album you are a fool. I've never written a review but I just had to for this band. I can't even describe how much I love this album, just buy it and you'll know why.
