Customer Reviews

Exquisite

This album has been a long time coming, but it really was worth the wait. This album is full of emotion, stories, love & life. No filler, every song is enjoyable. Now, I must confess I had heard a lot of these at live shows over the last 18 months so they don't need time to grow on me.....but I don't think any of them ARE growers! If you only ever listen to one Ballboy album, it should be this one. If you only ever listen to one Ballboy track, let it be "A relatively famous victory"; probably the most hauntingly beautiful, multilayered song I have ever heard. Buy it. Live it. Love it.

It's not "Club Anthems" but excellent nonetheless

"Club Anthems" is, to me, one of my favorite albums of the 2000s. Every single track on the album is outstanding and I have continually listened to that album over and over and over again... "Ships" is not "Club Anthems," so adjust your expectations accordingly. What you will discover with "Ships" is Gordon singing very intimate and heartfelt songs. Honestly, I don't know what it is about Gordon and the band, but they seem to just "get it" and they have the ability to create these remarkably touching songs that really anyone can relate to. Earlier tonight I was watching some ballboy videos on YouTube and Gordon spoke prior to singing "Avant Garde Music" and it really put the entire song into perspective. I hadn't realized that there were ballboy podcasts on iTunes so I'm looking forward to downloading them tonight. Back to "Ships" - It's a fantastic album. Buy it. If you're a ballboy fan then you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend the album.

The group consists of Gordon McIntyre (vocals, guitar, lyrics), Nick Reynolds (bass), Katie Griffiths (keyboards, backing vocals) and Gary Morgan (drums). The Edinburgh band signed to SL Records in 1999 and released their debut EP in November of that year. Subsequently, they released...
