Worth a long wait

After waiting for weeks to receive my copy of "I Wrote These" from the mail clerk on a small base in Baghdad, I coaxed my sand-weary laptop to read the pristine CD, donned my large "Do Not Disturb" headphones and sat transfixed for 57 very fulfilling minutes. As the title explains - there is no Beyonce, no McCartney, no Bemis, no Folds. You'll learn - as I did - that this songstress has worthy creations of her own to showcase. Although the sophomore effort may appear fun and fizzy by its cover, the majority of its content is decidedly contemplative and somewhat dark. The well-crafted melodies will likely get your toes tapping and your head bobbing, however. And the elegance of multi-Julia harmonies may make the ukelele youngster a prime candidate for early human cloning. Perhaps one of the most memorable effects achieved on this album is the almost startling manner in which Julia's prose will at times melt sweetly into her melodies and at other times resemble a rebel yell in the middle of the angelic harmony. After the second time through the multi-faceted "Pen to Paper", you'll know exactly what I mean. The track hides somber, mean, and angry sentiments behind a puddy-dog-cute opening and a pony-tail-bouncing skip of a verse. A few of the other moving moments of this album: "Maybe I Will" (a heart-wrenching situation); "Stairwell" (has made a soldier all lumpy-throated more than once); "The Debt" (adorable, sweet, sassy - candy for the ears with amusing "percussion" arrangement); and "Welcome Vacation" (feels like an opus at 4:30). Above all, this album is rich in a commodity scarce in much of contemporary art: honesty. To those who give her the oppurtunity, Miss Nunes eagerly serves all the potent flavors of a freshly squeezed soul.

She's done it again!

I've loved Julia since the day I found her on youtube, this album is amazing and if you liked the first one, you'll love this one! -Danny

So Much Talent...

In such an entertaining, adorable, quirky and incomparable package. I discovered Juila on YouTube (jaaaaaaa) and have followed her ever since. Her covers of famous songs are superb but the originals are so much more. This gal has more talent in her baby toe than I'll ever hope to have. Her albums are a must have for fans of original singer/songwriters.
