iTunes Editors’ Notes

African-Americans who arguably invented hardcore punk rock in 1979 in Washington, D.C. with the blistering "Pay to Cum" single, the Bad Brains not only did it faster and better than anyone else, but they clearly had tired of that music almost as soon as they'd created it. So they made their own mutant version of hardcore, first mixing Jamaican sounds, and later elements of metal, into their sound. The quality on this live document may not be quite as stellar as one might like, but it still should be within the first ten hardcore albums you buy nonetheless; here are the Bad Brains at the height of their game! The soundtrack to a concert film, it appears to be a soundboard mix, which means the drums are louder than almost anything else. And the show is clearly so totally out of control that H.R. doesn't always sing right into the mic. These are very minor quibbles, of course, and until we can get our Way-Back Machine to actually work, we're more than happy with this swell document of one of the shreddingest group of shredders ever.

Bad Brains Live

This stuff is crazy!!!! On the cover it just look,s like it's going to be just a reggae album, but it actually is mostly hardcore punk. P.S. Fall Out Boy and all those other posers are POSERS, don't listen to any of their crap!

Best Live album; Best Hardcore Album

This album is a masterpiece. One of the few albums ever made that gives you the thrills and chills of being at a great live band's performance. And with no real time producer to water down the sound; this is Bad Brains' greatest statement. They're the most compelling act of their generation. This is the sound of when a group of artists and the movement they are part of reach their peak.

By melding punk with reggae, Bad Brains became one of the definitive American hardcore punk groups of the early '80s. Although the group released only a handful of records during its peak, including the legendary cassette-only debut, Bad Brains, they developed a dedicated following, many of whom would later form their own hardcore and alternative bands. As for Bad Brains themselves, they continued to...
