iTunes Review

By any logic, Little Feat should be as beloved among classic rock fans as Led Zeppelin and the Allmans — two groups that counted themselves as Feat lovers — but fate and misfortunate condemned the Los Angeles-based sextet to cult status. Their songs are as warm as bear hugs and as musically accomplished as jazz tunes, but Feat reserved the right to go gnarly and bizarre once in a while. (After all, this is a group that started its career backing Captain Beefheart.) The Best of Little Feat showcases a cross-section of their career, including three tracks from the band’s posthumous reformation without founder Lowell George. The real meat of the album comes from the band’s mid-‘70s heyday, when they rumbled like a bar band, but also wrote songs that were beautiful and bittersweet, like “Fool Youself,” “Roll Um Easy” and George’s immortal “Willin’.” Even when they veered into funk and jazz, Little Feat never lost its way. They did it all with style and conviction (even the posthumous reunion was admirable), and proved that a lasting reputation comes from outstanding music, not massive success.

One of America's Best Bands

Any compilation of Greatest Hits from a band as profound as Little Feat is bound to leave off any number of gems, and this is certainly true here (Rock and Roll Doctor?!?!). That being said, for the casual fan, this is a home-run and a great portal into the world of Little Feat. If it peaks your interest, I would strongly encourage you to pick up Feats Don't Fail Me Now and Dixie Chicken in their entirety - they are simply outstanding. If you're track hunting, no one should go without Willin', Dixie Chicken, Roll Um, or Fat Man in their collection. Hoy Hoy!

One of the greatest bands ever.

Little Feat is one of the world's greatest treasures and yeah they're showing their age a bit recently but everything up to cut 14 on this compilation is pure unadulterated genius. The stuff after '86 is good but nothing compares to Cold Cold Cold or Roll 'em Easy.

This just perfects my summer tunes....

Give me these tunes, some Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker and the Allman Bros. with the summer sun shining down on my face, combined with the sound of my daughter's laughter in the background. Listening to this truly makes me happy! I look forward to pumping this on my pod and enjoying being outside this summer. Relaxing and loving life! Little Feat gives you that feeling....

Though they had all the trappings of a Southern-fried blues band, Little Feat were hardly conventional. Led by songwriter/guitarist Lowell George, Little Feat were a wildly eclectic band, bringing together strains of blues, R&B, country, and rock & roll. The bandmembers were exceptionally gifted technically and their polished professionalism sat well with the slick sounds coming out of Southern California during the '70s. However, Little Feat were hardly slick — they had a surreal sensibility,...
