Gloria Lynne Love Songs

This one of the most talented and amazing singers ever, she's got a range that would match any singer today. She has been around for a long time and still sounds as great as she ever did, her soft sultry voice just doesn't change. Unfortunately, she's never gotten the reconition that she deserves as other jazz singers have, who in my opinion aren't as impressive as Gloria Lynne is, For those who have never heard her, they're truly missing a wonderful treat, she's FAB, I have followed her career for years, and have had the good fortune to attend her shows, and have met her, she's a very gracious and charming artist, and a very down to earth person which I felt as soon as we met. I have nothing but great respect and admiration for this very beautiful soulful artist, I intend to continue buying and listening to her most beautiful, amazing voice, she's a true jewel !!

Absolutely Exquisite Collection

I want to voice fairjuliet's excellent review of Ms. Lynn by saying that i too heard her perform at Pep's in Philly in the early 60's. But I got to know her back-up group consisting of Herman Foster, Earl May, and Grisella Oliphant (heard on "I'm Glad There Is You" and will remember hearing this music for the first time. So eloquent and lush a voice few female singers ever had, and yet sadly, too many people are listening to Beyonce' or Li'l Kim and have no clue. I must add that Herman Foster's powerful keyboard stylings can be heard on disc thanks to some smart producer, for sadly, Foster has gone unnoticed for way too long as well.

"Am I Blue" or "I Wish You Love" are my "follow ups" to "I Am Glad There Is You." but the best part is these are so beautifully re-mastered. Many earlier re-issues I have bought were poorly done or just recorded of the vinyl. With this collection you have a chance to hear what is one the classics of both romantic voices and pure-ness of jazz. For good measure listen to "Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe."

Gloria Lynne recorded many albums for Everest in her early days, slipped away into obscurity, and then in the 1990s made a comeback. An excellent singer whose style falls between bop, 1950s middle-of-the-road pop, and early soul, Lynne was always capable of putting on a colorful show. Her mother was a gospel singer and Lynne started out singing in church. She had five years of concert training and in 1951 won the legendary amateur competition at the Apollo Theater. Lynne sang with some vocal groups,...
