About time the Paris show was given its due!

Another great late 1994 CC show - smoldering versions of Ghost Train, RH, AMOO, CIB, and finally a semi formal release of the live staple Margery Dreams of Horses completing the trilogy of ANNA & Another Horsedreamers Blues. If you are a longtime Crows fan you will undoubtable know of the Merry Xmas Mr. Jones & Circle Game boots which have similar sets sans the super long RH & AMOO but they contain better versions of Jones (acoustic) and the great Sordid Humor tune Jumping Jesus which is always a treat regardless. If anyone is paying attention out there the whole 1994 tour should be released as a box set. Give the project to an ex Tarantura guy from Japan - they will get it right. Lets hope this release is a success and there is a RTS follow up in similar form - hint - you can use the Fillmore West 1996 gig for the bonus disc. Buy this - it is essential even for a casual fan.

The album's liner notes says it all.

In a time when Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were changing the face of music, Counting Crows were making their first album and statement on rock and roll. August and Everything After is a definitive example of self-expression. All it takes is one listen to the live show included in this deluxe edition to understand that Counting Crows were never a generic rock band. They strive for change and their shows provide an "in the moment experience." The epic live Round Here, Ghost Train and A Murder of One are three of the best live tracks you'll find anywhere; especially considering how young the band was during this concert.

Great release for your collection

Many of us die-hard Crows fans collect everything we can get our hands on, including boots (encouraged by Duritz and the fellas, by the way). This release really boosted my collection, particularly with the live stuff and the demos. Fourteen years this band has written their own stuff, done it their way and captured their own audience. If you haven't seen them live, CD #2 will give you a good idea of what to expect... unpredictable and they just pour it all into their songs.

With their angst-filled hybrid of Van Morrison, the Band, and R.E.M., Counting Crows became an overnight sensation in 1994. Only a year earlier, the band was a group of unknown musicians, filling in for the absent Van Morrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony; they were introduced by an enthusiastic Robbie Robertson. Early in 1993, the band recorded its debut album, August and Everything After, with T-Bone Burnett. Released in the fall, it was a dark and somber record, driven by the morose...
