Album Review

Designed to supersede the previous MCA compilation 15 Greatest Hits, this Greatest Hits features 16 James Gang tracks remastered for CD, plus detailed notes and commentary. The last two songs — "You're Gonna Need Me," and "The Ashes, the Rain, and I" — were recorded live, and there are also two tracks from the film Zachariah ("Laguna Salada" and "Country Fever") making their first appearances on a James Gang compilation. Another first-timer is the complete version of "The Bomber," an extended medley featuring an oft-edited bolero section that appears in full here. Thanks to the better sound and packaging, this one gets the nod over 15 Greatest Hits — unless you're looking for specific songs on that one that don't appear here, or unless you're a more devoted fan, in which case you might prefer the double-disc Repertoire compilation The Best of the James Gang.

What the heck iTunes?

Seriously, none of these tracks deserve to have an "explicit" warning on them.

Anyhow, "Funk 48" "Funk 49", "Bomber", and "Walk Away are my faves, and their best songs.

Other songs are meh.

I remember the day I first heard “The Bomber” 7/1971. On the Board Walk at Carolina Beach, N.C. Still great great songs 45 years later. They sure don’t make music like this anymore!

Joe Walsh and the James Gang are so Creative and Talented!!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!! The James Gamg and Joe Walsh will go down in History and the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame as being extremely innovative and great song writers. They Rock Hard on songs like, "WALK AWAY" and are also very dynamic. They are very melodic and can play a variety of styles.......The Eagles lost a lot of TALENT when they lost Joe Walsh....He's vey talented, playful, and improvisational on his guitar!!!!!! This Band is SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

With the emergence of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience during the late '60s, the path was cleared for other hard-rockin' "trios." Arguably, the finest to emerge from the subsequent American crop was the James Gang. Despite penning a few of classic rock radio's most enduring songs, the James Gang ultimately failed to deliver on their initial promise, as constant lineup juggling ultimately derailed the group. The Gang's roots stretch back to 1966 in Cleveland, OH, where drummer Jim Fox formed...
