Album Review

Image Entertainment and Geffen Records jointly released the documentary Hell Freezes Over, built around the Eagles' reunion tour, with DTS sound encoding available. Even the early sections, depicting the participating members (which doesn't include co-founder Randy Meisner or Bernie Leadon) reflecting on the decision to reunite for the national tour, are interesting for the song fragments that you get in rehearsal, as well as the short interviews with Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Don Felder, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit — a few fan comments and you're suddenly immersed in the group's mostly acoustic rock treatment of "Hotel California," which includes a great acoustic guitar break by Walsh. The camera angles are great, constantly moving you around the stage and all of the shots assembled with a great deal of fluidity. Although the members soon pick up electric instruments, the rest of the concert is a kind of novel approach to the music — even on the full electric numbers such as "Get Over It," they keep the best elements of an "unplugged" performance, holding on to the same close spatial relationship and also capturing the closeness of the members musically. That is made even more clear in the much more intimate "Desperado," which constitutes the 99-minute program's denouement. The 12-song feature gets 15 chapter markers.

Best Eagles album ever!

I remember when I first watch the broadcast of this concert on PBS 17 years ago. It was on my first surround sound system. It left impression on me. I barely had 30 albums on CDs back then. I have 1700 albums that I bought on iTunes since then. Despite having The Beatles Box Set, Metallica Collection and ALL Korn albums. I still felt like I had an empty collection without Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" album. Today I got a New iPad and it felt like my birthday getting Hell Freezes Over. I played this on my MacBook Air (Mid-2011) connected to Bowers & Wilkins (aka B&W) MM-1 speakers. I definitely can tell you this album is Mastered for iTunes. It may not be categorized as Mastered for iTunes but it is. I listened to DTS 5.1 version and CD version I remembered both to the audible detail. I converted the CD to 256Kbps AAC format. When I first got B&W MM-1 Speakers "Hotel California" was always the first song I played. B&W MM-1 has 32-bit DSP active when you connect it with USB. Today after I bought this album I played "Hotel California," it sounded a lot better than both CD and DTS version. I am truly happy to have this in my music library and stored in iCloud. Trust me this album is worth every penny!

With five number one singles, 14 Top 40 hits, and four number one albums, the Eagles were among the most successful recording artists of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of those albums -- Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) and Hotel California -- ranked among the ten best-selling albums ever, and the popularity of 2007's Long Road Out of Eden proved the Eagles' staying power in the new millennium. Though most of its members came from outside California, the group was closely identified...
