Just Like You

Just Like You

American Idol contestant Allison Iraheta's debut album Just Like You shows hints of where this talented vocalist is likely headed as she matures and develops her own style. “Friday I’ll Be Over U” opens with heaps of Kelly Clarkson’s tough girl spunk under layers of distorted synthesizers and hip dance beats. And if the brooding rocker “No One Else” sounds somewhat reminiscent of Pink, that’s because Pink actually had a hand in writing it. While Iraheta recorded Just Like You at 17, her muscular sounding voice reveals a mature soul that’s overflowing with personality. She also likes to rock — American Idol devotees may remember her ambitiously taking on Foghat’s “Slow Ride” and Heart’s “Baricuda” — but here her love for the classics reveals itself on “Robot Love” where she dares to boast a prominent Gary Glitter sample from “Rock and Roll (Part 2)” and the soulful “Scars” sounds influenced by Bonnie Raitt.
