iTunes Review

Together and apart, Aaron, Art, Cyril and Charles Neville had been making music for decades before they released Yellow Moon in 1989. But this album was unlike anything these New Orleans legends had ever recorded before. With the aid of producer Daniel Lanois, the brothers finally captured the voodoo-drenched essence of their soulful sound. The Nevilles' mesmerizing harmonies are surrounded by atmospheric tracks that mix simmering Creole funk with '80s ambient rock. Lyrically, the album's well-chosen songs reach back deeply into African-American history. "My Blood" invokes the brothers' ancestral roots, while "Sister Rosa" celebrates civil rights activist Rosa Parks. "A Change is Gonna Come" resonates with gospel grace. And when Aaron takes the lead on Bob Dylan's "With God on My Side," he sings with the angelic voice of Justice itself. At once traditional and innovative, Yellow Moon lets the Neville Brothers shine with bayou brilliance.

a classic!

a great album, to be sure. completely soulful, great sound from a band that knows how to play together, and a voice as heavenly as it is strong. if you've never heard the neville bros, you need this one in your collection.

Best Neville Brothers album hands down

This is the finest album for the Neville Brothers. Yellow Moon captures many elements of New Orleans music and the brothers diverse talents. There is really something for everyone here. I think this album is the perfect introduction to the Neville Brothers and a must have for anyone interested in Louisiana music.

Yellow Moon

This is still an amazing album. It shows you the true roots of the well known artist Aaron Neville. The music he makes with his brothers is much more soulful and hip than anything you hear him do for his mainstream love songs that have made him milions of dollars.

Throughout their long careers as both solo performers and as members of the group that bore their family name, the Neville Brothers proudly carried the torch of their native New Orleans' rich R&B legacy. Although the four siblings — Arthur, Charles, Aaron, and Cyril — did not officially unite under the Neville Brothers aegis until 1977, all had crossed musical paths in the past, while also enjoying success with other unrelated projects: Eldest brother Art was the first to tackle a...
