A worthy offering from James Horner

While not my favorite of his scores, several of these cues are quite good and hold my interest. Oddly enough, I'm finding more satisfaction with some of the lesser known composers that are on the scene like Nico Muhly ("The Reader" - absolutely stunning!), Josh Kramer (his "Beginnings" cd is fantastic), and Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man). Check them all out if you want a musical treat! Also, Horner's score for "Iris" is BEAUTIFUL!

Looks good but...?

how was it released in 1997??? O.o

I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the trailers I'd seen, the music was great. This is a very rich, emotionally strong score...which should be no surprise considering it's Horner. I'm still digesting the whole thing, but in some of the major themes like Final Contest, I heard definite references to the theme from the original Karate Kid (Bill Conti)...that little 3-note motif, bt I think horner took it and twisted it toward the epic. I absolutely love it and can't wait to see the film! This score easily holds it's own with the original work done by Bill Conti. It's my second favorite of the whole series, trailing only the score from Karate Kid II. Well done Mr. Horner...well done!
