iTunes Review

Centering on David Ruffin’s post-Temptations Motown output (1969 to 1977), this wonderfully considered collection would be all the solo Ruffin you’d need if the soul shouter himself didn’t convey such yearning, joy, and sadness. But it’s an excellent starting point. One need only listen to the pleader “Common Man” or the inescapably melancholic “(My Whole World Ended) The Moment You Left Me” to understand Ruffin’s gifts, which also include the ability to lift even pedestrian dancefloor soul to something magical (“Who Am I”) and singing a simple R&B-pop tune like it was the last song ever written (“On and On”).

The Ultimate David Ruffin

This album is for David Ruffin fans. David Ruffin had such a refined voice, a flair for the dramatics, and a romantic side to his tunes and this album reflects all those factors. He had the "voice". These songs go from the very romantic to his own "World of Darkness". David you are missed by your fans. The Common Man is timeless and hundreds of men could and should sing that song to their wives and some wives to their husands. Artists, like David Ruffin, are truly a gift to the world. I am glad that I had opportunity to see and hear his music. Great Album -- Greater Singer!

One of the greatest lead singers the Motown stable ever had, David Ruffin became one of the artistic cornerstones of the Temptations after his lead vocal on "My Girl" (1965) paved the way for such majestic follow-ups as "Since I Lost My Baby" (1965), "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" (1966), "All I Need" (1967), and "I Wish It Would Rain" (1968). Unfortunately, ever-mounting internal pressures within the group, coupled with Ruffin's swelling ego, led to his dismissal from the group in late 1968. His solo...
