The other Morricone

Though he's not nearly as well known here as Morricone, Piccioni wrote scores for bunches of Italian spy-crime-sex movies in the 60s and 70s, and there's a lot of great stuff on them. He was more diverse than Morricone, actually, more like a John Barry -- he could write silly pop tunes (like the title track of 10th Victim), psychedelic-y rock (like Lsd here), excellent Mancini-style lounge jazz, big brassy numbers, swingin' exotica (China Town Drugs) -- you name it. If you like, say, the James Bond music of the era, you should taste this Italian version.

There are few Italian film composers who can boast the prolificacy of Peiro Piccioni. Since the early '50s Piccioni has been a truly innovative composer of music for film and has been justly compared to the likes of Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicola.
