The least of the best.

This is easily the Beatles weakest album. Side two is all George Martin and side one features a handful of throwaway songs. However, this album does have one bright spot and that is "Hey Bulldog." Don't bother with the album but definitely pick up "Hey Bulldog." John considered this a throwaway song but it's actually quite brilliant.

An Album Made For ITunes

Yellow Submarine rarely gets any love; it's consistently regarded as the least essential Beatles album by critcs and fans alike. It's not hard to see why. The first half of the album only contains four news Beatles songs, two songs released on previous efforts (though both uber-famous), and the rather interesting-but-disposable original score by George Martin. Still, I love the four new songs! Yes, they aren't as profound as "Hey Jude" or "Revolution". That's their charm, though. "Hey Bulldog" is awesome, awesome, awesome......simply a great piano-driven rocker with lyrics reflecting John at his surrealisticly comic best. George's "It's All Too Much" is a psychedelic fudge sundae freak-out with everything but the kitchen sink left in for good measure.

The other two songs, "All Together Now" and "Only A Northern Song", are fun, Pepper-era outtakes that proves that during 1965-1970 the Fabs could write music for a phone book and still make it sound great.

Again, for casual fans, I'd simply buy the four new tracks. If you're a fantatic like me, well, you already have this.

Biography

Formed: 1957 in Liverpool, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s

So much has been said and written about the Beatles — and their story is so mythic in its sweep — that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that...
