Editors’ Notes

Hank Williams recorded professionally for six-plus years and left behind a catalog so emotionally rich and varied that it takes this "complete" collection to fully grasp the depths and range of his talents. Though new radio performances pop up from time to time, this contains all of Williams' studio work and the radio performances that were known at the time of this release. Many Williams fans start with something like the excellent 40 Greatest Hits album and find themselves wanting to hear more, only to discover that a supplementary album or two doesn't quite quench the desire and that there's still too much greatness to find. Beyond the obvious hits—"Lost Highway," "Your Cheatin' Heart"—there are little treasures such as "Lost on the River," "At the First Fall of Snow," "Rockin' Chair Money," "Sundown and Sorrow," and "A House of Gold" that solidify Williams' reputation as the greatest country artist of all time. The cry in his voice, the naked simplicity of his writing, and the first-rate (but never flashy) backing work by his Drifting Cowboys make Williams' songs essential to anyone with an interest in country music.
