Editors’ Notes

Peter Murphy will never escape the shadows of Bauhaus and he has no reason to try. His solo work is rich with a similar gothic vibe that creates great mystery on the best cuts and at least curious wanderings on the rest. It’s no surprise that many of these songs were performed live before being put to tape. Tracks such as “Velocity Bird,” “Seesaw Sway” and “Peace to Each” cruise with a tough, assured quality that’s as close to genuine hard rock as it is to David Bowie-styled art rock. “I Spit Roses” dials down the propulsion to open itself into a beautiful goth-psychedelic maelstrom. “Never Fall Out” turns dark and moody with a striking calm that is followed up with the spastic pop of “Memory Go.” “Crème de la Crème” sits down at the piano for a vampiric vamp. “Secret Silk Society” approaches a Bauhaus sense of eerie doom. Murphy is a master and with producer David Baron understanding Murphy’s vision, Ninth is a necessary addition to the Bauhaus-Murphy catalog.

Peter is Back!

The entire album is a rock masterpiece. From Velocity Bird to The Prince & Old Lady Shade to Uneven and Brittle, the whole album rocks and flows. This will be in my car cd player all summer and cranked! Guys listening to rap won't know what hit them.

PM returns with a heavy album & roaring voice of stunning beauty. Everything you've loved about his solo work is updated here & absolutely stellar.

Best Album of his career

Murphy may have crafted better songs in the past, but this is his best album as a whole. Straight ahead Rock & Roll, but with the timeless style of Peter Murphy. Super strong vocals, hippie dippie sharp cut lyrics, very well produced. I've waited a long time for a new fresh material. Delivered with a roar!

Despite having a successful solo career as a cult artist, vocalist Peter Murphy remains best known as the lead singer for Bauhaus, the pioneering post-punk goth rock band of the early '80s. After disbanding Bauhaus in 1983, Murphy formed Dali's Car with former Japan member Mick Karn. Dali's Car only released one album, The Waking Hour, in 1984. Following its release, the duo broke up and Murphy hesitatingly began a solo career with a cover of Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me," which was featured...
