Best served with a side of hot sauce!

This 2008 release from ACE records; is simply billed as the 'James Hunter Band'. No collection of Hunter LP's would be complete, without adding this one, and it shows the seminal path Hunter would take, with his ticket for the uptown, soul-express. Everything you've come to expect from a remarkable artist, whose been inspired by R&B legends like Sam Cooke, Ben E. King, and Solomon Burke. He opens the set, with a real 'club-pleaser' called "Two Can Play", and displays some funky vocals, and signature guitar-licks. He follows it with "Way Down Inside", served-up with some real snappy, saxophone! Jimmy literally slows- it-down on Track 3, with a soulful rendition; of the old 'Nat King Cole' chestnut: "The Very Thought of You". He follows-on with the classy, "It Ain't Funny". A first-person confessional; on the foibles of love. "Let Me Know" is a nice, groovy 'shout-back' number; reminiscent of a 'Ray Charles' hip-shaking 60's, disco blast-off. Anybody want to frug? The band reprises with an 'alternate-version' of an earlier released ballad called, "I'll Walk Away". "I Wanna Get Old With You" will definitely draw some comparisons to the late, great Sam Cooke. As do songs like: "Hallelujah I Love Her So", "Believe What I Say". "Out of Sight", and "Don't Step On It' are also a nice, late-inning surprise! The CD finishes with an upbeat duet between Doris Troy, and Hunter to close-out the set. This one; is another raw, up-from-the-street 'bust-out'; served with a complimentary side of hot sauce! A great CD, for those who like Hunter already; and for those who are trying to 'get-in' with something!
