Not the Music from Jim Henson's Labyrinth, but a good score nonetheless

This actually is NOT the soundtrack from Jim Henson's 1986 puppet musical Labyrinth (featuring David Bowie) but the soundtrack from a 2013 TV miniseries (produced by Ridley Scott) of the same title.

The confusion is perhaps understandable, as composer Trevor Jones (who wrote the dramatic underscore for the Henson film) is also the composer for this project.

Jones' work for this new series is unlike his surging music for Last of the Mohicans (and nothing like his more pop-oriented music for the Henson film). It is far-more subdued, but rife with attractive themes and harmonic invention, sometimes recalling his early work on short films like Black Angel. The album also offers a generous running time, and it's nice to see Jones taking an active hand in making his music available via iTunes, and one hopes he will see fit to upload more of his unreleased work.
