iTunes Review

A half-decade after forming in 2010, the road-seasoned Southern boogie band led by spouses Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks has coalesced into a terrifically expansive unit. An 11-member core ensemble digs into serious, brassy funk in tracks like “Misunderstood” and “Part of Me,” while ballads like “It’s So Heavy” and “Calling Out to You” excavate gorgeous depths of soul. There’s plenty of hot jamming too—as Tedeschi sings of water rising in “The Storm,” Trucks’ wah-wah guitar floods over organ toward an almost Middle Eastern groove.

I love this new album and I love them!

Made Up my mind that.....

This is freakin' awesome!!!

Better than the last album, but...

After a few listens through, I can already tell this album is much better than "Revelator" - the production is tighter, snappier and more dynamic, and the songs are much more high energy, rocking, uptempo and overall more interesting/exciting. The songwriting is decent, and the guitar is tasty. Still though, Tedeschi's voice is extremely grating--she belts, yells, and screams at the top of her lungs on every song and it's exhausting (and annoying) to listen to. It's just way too much, and it's not musically tasteful at all. If you're a fan of Susan Tedeschi, you'll probably love it. But if you're listening to this album to hear Derek Trucks' guitar playing shine (like me), you'll have to suffer and cringe through Tedeschi's vocals. I wish someone would tell her to settle down, back it off and practice some vocal restraint occasionally. She could learn a lot from the old "less is more" adage...

The Tedeschi Trucks Band -- led by the husband-and-wife duo of guitarist and vocalist Susan Tedeschi and slide guitarist Derek Trucks -- began as a summer touring unit known as Soul Stew Revival. It was both a practical consideration for the pair to spend time together with their young family and a musical endeavor. Soul Stew Revival featured members of their own bands and numerous guest musicians, and the loose-knit cooperative band performed roof-raising shows full of soul, blues, funk, and gospel...
