another gem from Laura Veirs

“Warp and Weft” is a beautiful album that highlights the ethereal voice of Laura Veirs. The lyrical singing is matched by melodies that move from jazz to a countryish alt style. There is no doubt that this is a work of love and her lyrics are from the heart. The songs have both catchy melodies and a sense of uniqueness that highlights a voice that can brighten a cloudy day. A tapestry of sound and beauty.

Universal & Tender...

I have been waiting for another Laura Veirs' album to come for 2 years now. I have loved Laura Veirs' songs from when the first one played on 2010s excellent "July Flame." I like that this new album "Warp & Weft" also has electric guitars on it. I can immediately tell who is singing when I hear her voice which is unique like Joni Mitchell and k.d. lang's. Her songs are universal with titles such as "Sun King" and "Shape Shifter." They are inspired, tender indie songs and her voice has a way of going to one's heart. Any fan of Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro or Patti Smith will love Laura Veirs' music.

Just wow

Mr. Martine's production ever more sublime, Ms. Veirs's voice ever more magnetic and bewitching… together carrying this fresh crop of classic songwriting, somehow, higher and farther than they did on their incredible back catalog. Just wow.

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Seattle singer/songwriter Laura Veirs sings personal songs of romantic intoxication, everyday vignettes, and occasional social commentary that are often heavy on introspection and intense character scrutiny. Her vocals and melodies rapidly shift and veer, up and down her wide vocal range. She put out her own self-titled CD, recorded live and featuring just her and guitar, in 1999. Though she went to the studio for her next album, The Triumphs & Travails of Orphan Mae, it too was self-released...
