iTunes Review

Think of Magpie and the Dandelion not as a sequel to its predecessor, The Carpenter, but as that album's other half—both records were drawn from the same batch of sessions with legendary producer Rick Rubin. Here, Rubin again makes certain nothing gets in the way of the Avetts' ample, unpretentious musical virtues: an earthy, inviting mix of alt-country and folk-rock and straightforward, introspective songwriting. Whether they're offering a stately, piano-led love letter like "Good to You" or celebrating the joys of a gypsy soul in the gamboling "Open Ended Life," The Avett Brothers deliver a handful of irresistible charmers on Magpie and the Dandelion.

Happily Satisfied and Enchanted.

I love the Avett Brothers! My husband and I saw them three times last year! I was a little concerned when I read some of the comments and heard "Another is Waiting" (while it is catchy and upbeat, it lacks the depth of music/lyrics we all love). However, I bought the album and I absolutely adore it! Its other songs are impeccably written and performed-heartfelt, raw, and poetically on point. Well done, Avett Bros! Keep it coming! And you are twice as amazing in concert!!! Can't wait to see you again soon!

I gave it 4 stars only because as bad as it is it's still really good for the avett brothers. They are not putting as much banjo in it. Lyrically it's still great. I just hope they mix in the banjo more than what they have.

The Avett Brothers continue in high form!

If "Another is Waiting" is an indication... The Avett Brothers continue where they've left off, great writing, performance, and wonderful record production. Kudos to the whole team! The ears have it!

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

The Avett Brothers' music has roots in traditional folk and bluegrass, but also captures the high spirits and no-boundaries attitude of rock & roll -- which is appropriate, since rock is where Scott Avett and Seth Avett first cut their teeth as musicians. Although siblings Scott (vocals, banjo) and Seth (vocals, guitar) began making music together as children, their group's genesis began when they were members of Nemo, a rock band that gigged regularly in Greenville, North Carolina.
