iTunes Review

Thirteen years after Real Time and just a year after the well-received live album We’re Usually a Lot Better Than This, Tim O’Brien and Darrell Scott return with a solid country-bluegrass studio album loaded with intelligently chosen covers and five quality original tunes. These two country boys are in demand: the West Virginia–bred O’Brien performed in Mark Knopfler’s group, while Scott, from Kentucky, played in Robert Plant’s Band of Joy. Here they handle a multitude of acoustic instruments and harmonize like hot dogs and beans. Recorded in just three days, the album is well-played and alive with an immediacy that’s impossible to fake. John Prine himself sings his classic “Paradise” about the perils of strip-mining; it works nicely with O’Brien and Scott’s environmentally concerned original “Keep Your Dirty Lights On.” Stellar country classics—George Jones’ “Just One More,” Hank Williams’ “Alone and Forsaken”—show that the duo know the right songs to cover.

Two of the best living songwriters collaborating again! The feeling that seeps over you while listening to the lyrics and harmonies is both familiar and sublime. Thank you Tim and Darrell!

I participated their Kickstarter project. I was waiting this releasing day every day. And they doesn't disappoint of course! … My dream is attending their live someday...

It just gets better with every listen

Triumphant, harmonious, reflective, brilliant- these guys could be one of the best duos out there.

Cannot say enough about how joyous and spiritual this album is.

As co- founder and lead vocalist of Hot Rize and Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers, O'Brien served as a bridge between the traditional sounds of the hill country and the modern styles of bluegrass in the 1980s. Since the band's breakup, O'Brien has continued to expand the music's borders as a soloist, a duo partner with his sister Mollie, and with his band, the O'Boys. O'Brien's songs have additionally been recorded by Kathy Mattea, the...
