iTunes Editors’ Notes

Drake's 2013 album Nothing Was the Same intensified his sensitivity even as it deepened the ominous undercurrent in his music. These are songs about success and celebration, but more importantly, they address the inescapable fear and danger inherent in any conquest. This theme is addressed not just in the lyrics—which examine how past decisions affected Drake’s present, and how the decisions he’s making now, at his pinnacle of power, might affect the future—but in the tone of the music. Working primarily with his longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib and a host of invited sonic masterminds, Drake makes songs that say as much through atmosphere as they do with lyrics. Rather than adhere to the conventions of beats and rhymes, his tracks embrace the slippery tension between singing and rapping, between tight rhythms and free-floating passages, between choruses and stream-of-consciousness confessions. For all its ambition, Nothing Was the Same is a remarkably unified piece of work, with each song partaking in a singular fusion of sensuality, revelry, and tantalizing darkness.

NOTHING WAS THE SAME LITERALLY

Nothing was the same man. I think he is selling a million first week man i guess I'm an optimist. Get it drizzy!!!

Nothing Was the Same

Drake continues to showcase his versatility, and the last 2 singles have been solid, even though they had completely different styles. Drake is using this album as sort of a springboard for the artists that he's signed to his label, expanding his involvment in the music buisness. Though it has been porrly marketed, there is no doubt in my mind Nothing Was the Same will be a major success, hopefully duplicating the virtually flawless Take Care.
