iTunes Editors’ Notes

Helpless infatuation and devastating loss are the twin extremes that Front Porch Step (a.k.a. Jake Mcelfresh) explores on his debut album, Aware. Echoes of everyone from Hayden to David Bazan and Dashboard Confessional can be heard here, though this Ohio-rooted artist’s guileless vocals and minimalist acoustic settings are distinctly his own. Mcelfresh combines a punk rocker’s intensity with a classic singer/songwriter’s craftsmanship. From the yearning of the title track to the rapture of “If I Tremble” and the rage of “Island of the Misfit Boy,” Aware’s raw honesty is never less than convincing.

Customer Reviews

If you like his songs - which I do, I really, really do - go listen to them on YouTube. Don't support him. Don't give him money or power or fame, which will only further his outreach and put more young girls in harm's way. Don't give him the means to hurt anyone else. He is trash, the music is not, but don't you dare go uneducated or brush it off. Jake McElfresh does not deserve your praise.

I'm so proud of how far he's gone and I can see a bright future for him once this drops. Don't sleep on this record, I promise you'll love it. Definitely worth the money.

He is such an amazing artist but I have lost all respect for him, hearing about him sexually harassing that girl. I wish he would have turned out differently because he is phenomenal but I won't ever have the same respect I had for him, knowing what he's done.
