iTunes Review

Occupying a space between the New Traditionalists who champion classic country stylings and the alt-country crew, Jason Eady has mastered the art of the soft sell. On Daylight & Dark, he keeps his Outlaw Country influences close at hand, but the overall feel is more akin to Willie Nelson's understated grace than Waylon Jennings' rough-and-tumble, rock-inflected approach. Though the album opens with the good 'n' greasy honky-tonk drinking song "OK Whiskey," Eady mostly leans back on the tempo and dynamics, letting his finely wrought tunes and pure country pipes carry the day without too much fuss. Swooping, haunted pedal steel lines artfully frame the songs as Eady lays out his ideas with deceptive simplicity. Like most great country singers, he's adept at limning the darker side of life, observing "I drink because I'm lonesome/I'm not lonesome 'cause I drink" on "Whiskey & You" and "It costs a lot to love somebody/And I know because I had to pay the price" on "Late Night Diner." Mainstream or underground, Daylight & Dark is one of 2014's best country albums.

Real Country

If you are looking for Pop Country, fast guitars and today's Nashville sound then don't buy this album. However, if you want a record that drives you down that highway to old country heaven then you need to look no further than this album. It's refreshing to know that not every artist that calls themselves country has not sold out to the mold that has become current mainstream country music. Listen up Nashville, we have a real country artist in Jason Eady.

Jason Eady... REAL County Music

This is a great album. Everything I've ever heard of Jason Eady is solid gold! He has such a real county feel to his music. This is what should be on the radio instead of all those "other people". If you can make it to Luckenbach TX and see him live acoustic. You are in for a real treat!

First Listen

I'm the kind of music follower that music has to slowly seep in before I really love it. Maybe a few listens before it really grows on me. This release follows much of Jason's previous releases, "no soak" in time required, love it from the beginning.

Outstanding song writing and crazy smooth voice. I love the tempo all the way through, only to upend the pace at end with a Hayes Carll - Evan Felker up-tempo compilation, nice nice touch - A Memory Now.

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Jason Eady is a charting Texas-based country and Americana singer and songwriter. He was born outside Jackson, Mississippi in 1975. Though his earliest love was country music, he was exposed to a wealth of sounds from the lower Delta region: blues, soul, vintage R&B, and swamp rock. At 14, he began singing and playing guitar in cover bands and writing songs. His early original efforts were greeted with apathy by audiences in his home state who were more interested in hearing performers sing hits...
