Customer Reviews

Less urgent/intense-still amazing.

Many of the classic Indica elements are here along with further great songwriting. Perhaps its a bit more popish than my personal sensibilities than I wanted, and the guitar is a little less prominent. I did find myself listening to this collection all the way through and it does improve with each listen. Not sure if it will be my 2014 album of the year yet but its already a contender. Now we just need a live disc from the upcoming tour!

Shine like Indica

Fantastic! Has a nice mix of energetic and subdued, emotional songs. Everything is very melodic and flowing. A great purchase. Indica is wonderful.

A Different Side of Indica

Indica is back and shining with their 2nd English album. Though more mainstream and personal than their previous album, "Shine" overcomes some of the pitfalls that "A Way Away" had. Jonsu seems much more comfortable singing in English, and the lyrics flow more naturally with clearer concepts. Some of the songs on the album are classic Indica with haunting melodies and folklore lyrics, such as the breathtaking "Mountain Made of Stone" or "War Child". Other songs are more bouncy and fun with pure pop overtones, such as "Goodbye to Berlin" or "A Definite Maybe". We also have a few sounds we've never heard from Indica, such as "Uncovered" which almost has a country-like sound, or light guitar strung ballads such as "Run Run". The rest of the songs you may be surprised to hear a slight 90's or 80's sound with catchy, melodic choruses. The chorus of "Missing" and "Here and Now" are sure to get your heart racing. And also, I must give Sirkku praise for the lovely keyboard playing which is simply beautiful in most of the tracks.

Overall, the album may not be as whimsical as their previous albums, but is still an easy listen and good in its own way. I give the album a 4.5/ 5 (but I'll round it up to a 5 since iTunes doesn't allow half stars).

I recommend:
-Mountain Made of Stone (simply gorgeous!)
-Uncovered
-Missing
-Here and Now
-Hush Now Baby

And if you're a fan of Finnish music, don't forget to buy the Finnish version of the album "Akvaario"!

The Finnish all-girl suomirock group Indica formed in 2002 with teenagers Johanna "Jonsu" Salomaa, Heini, Sirkku, Jenny, and Laura. Singing in Finnish and forging an accessible pop sound with witchy, goth rock sensibilities, the girls caught the attention of Sony BMG's Jani Jalonen in 2003. Indica's debut album on that label, Ikuinen Virta, hit stores in the summer of 2004 and eventually went platinum in...
