Fine Work

"Jeanne d'Arc" is one of Honegger's finest works, and the French national orchestra does a fine job of presenting it. Seiji Ozawa is spot on, and the orchestra is pristine. All of the singers excellently portray the drama and satire that comprise this work. As for the music itself, it can be a little disturbing, but one must keep in mind this is dramatic satire AND was written in the mid-20th century (the whooping, bobbing sounds in Scene IV and other places are made by the Ondes-Martenot, an instrument invented in 1928). Honegger did not join up with the Serialist school, and the music reflects his mantra of "simplicity, economy, logic!" He creates a sound world that takes the best influences of Wagner and the Romantic tradition and condenses them into the Apollonian ideal to which he clung.

This music kinda desterbes me so ya dont buy this it scares me a little.
