iTunes Review

Even though it's flush with hip-hop talent, the Bay Area has something of a glass ceiling. From Too $hort to E-40, some of its brightest stars have remained mainly regional talents, earning mild national attention but never blowing up outright. With debut albums released within a month of each other, producer/rappers Iamsu! and Sage the Gemini (of Oakland's Heartbreak Gang) are the Bay's latest bid for hip-hop success. Sincerely Yours features the aforementioned rap legends on the Yay Area throwback "T.W.D.Y.," as well as a guest verse from 2 Chainz on the slinking single "Only That Real." The title of "Stop Signs" seems like 'Su's answer to Sage's ubiquitous "Gas Pedal," but it's the understated swirl of "What You 'Bout," featuring Wiz Khalifa, that best echoes that viral sensation. Throughout, 'Su's relaxed flow and playful take on so-called "ratchet" music puts a decidedly Bay Area stamp on the minimalist genre.
