Album Review

Michael W. Smith's 25th studio album, 2014's Sovereign, is the beloved Christian singer's first album of pop and worship-oriented material since 2010's Wonder. The album also follows his 2011 instrumental album, Glory, and his popular 2008 live worship album A New Hallelujah. Working with a handful of writer/producers including Jeremy Edwardson, Kyle Lee, Seth Mosley, and Christopher Stevens, Smith has crafted an earnest and heartfelt recording inspired by his deep faith. Included on Sovereign is the lead-off single, "You Won't Let Go" as well as "The One That Really Matters," featuring guest Kari Jobe.

AMAZING!!!

This is a great album!

Sovereign

The whole album is great but my 2 favs are "You are the Fire" & "The One that Really Matters". These songs have a fresh new sound that not only touched my heart but challenged me to "Fan the Flame" in my own life and to make sure that Jesus is the "One that really matters. Thanks Micheal W. Smith for great dissernment in choosing these songs.

Pleasant surprise

I have followed MWS’s career since I was a pre-teen. But somewhere along the way, I felt like I outgrew him. This album shows me I was wrong. He sings songs here that give words to some of the deepest cries of my soul. This is not superficial candy coated pop, but worship that gets in your face—worship that says God is in control, no matter how out of control things feel to you, and He is worthy of our worship. This is not feel-good music, it is truth. “Hide Myself” and “Sovereign Over Us” are a couple of standouts for this reason. But “Sky Spills Over” is fun to listen to, along with “The One That Really Matters.” Ironically, I”ve had this CD on repeat and play for days, just like when I was a kid.
